Excuse #7

The "Why I Have Neglected My Blog" series:

Internet sabbatical.

I've been Internetally active for 17 years. Every now and then, I overload and I don't want to have anything to do with the passwords and the typing and the flaming and the Princespeak and the lost hours and the lack of sunshine.

The combination of Facebook (which I'm growing to loathe, but will lose a bunch of people if I don't stay), Twitter (which I love to death) and this blog (which I need to remind myself is mine and I can do what I want with it) is a lot more than I've ever maintained before.

I was tired of it.

Understandable. But a lot of us had empty, empty days.

I am sorry, Kim. And thank you. It makes me feel guilty and warm and fuzzy at the same time. Are you sure we aren't related?

The nice thing, Sarah, is that it doesn't have to be permanent. I've taken a month off from the 'Net a few times now. It's refreshing. And you shake some things out - some things you never get back to and that's a good and well-considered response once you've gone away.

I'd miss you, but I can't say I wouldn't recommend it.

I have to back Kim up on this one -- the emptiness was astounding. I'd trawl by this site (and I continued to do so, day after day, punishing myself!) and it literally echoed when I dropped in.

It's nice to have you back (understatement of the year).

You know you guys are making my head all big and stuff. Plus, you're encouraging me. There's a whole phalanx of people who would tell you that's not a good idea.

But don't listen to them.
